Why is LCARC necessary?These
days, the global environmental problems are occurred in various fields. Especially, these
problems clear on high economic activities in advanced countries, poverty and urbanization
in developing countries and the modified international cooperation. Moreover, cities,
which have been cycling the production, consumption and waste& recycle of energy and
materials, make the influence nature of satelite-cities.
Thus, in the range of those impacts the pollution problem have been spreading to global
worries and also in the social reason it is more modifying from the specific production
activities to general human activities.
As the global environmental problems come up more and more, it has limited that the
general methods work out the environmental influence from the part of urban activity and
construction, so that it is more important to analyze and assess these influences in
advance. The previous urban environmental planning mainly considered the operation, but
today becomes to need to review the urban planning and design in inclusive and long-term.
On the other side, it is hard to solve global environmental problems with the previous way
dealt with the environmental problems without pre-treatment. Therefore, the studies on the
effective environmental impact assessment begin, and one of them is Life Cycle Assessment,
the methodology quantifying the environmental loadings.
What can be expected?
To apply for LCA
of urban system unlike product LCA should be needed to analyze the boundaries and similarity between physical
sources and social sources in detail. In this point of view, the largest effect by the
study of LCARC is to grasp
the problems and acknowledge the urban system to assess various environmental loadings.
In the technical effect, LCA Methodology in our
research center as the highest technology in Korea might be able to provide others with
the basement of environmental loading assessment.
What is LCARC for?
LCARC will
furnish others with how to approach to quantify the environmental loadings in the life
cycle. With this attempt, the cause of the environmental loadings that propose the logical
and systemic methodology will be able to be analyzed. Moreover, it is to propose the LCA Methodology to assess the effect in
the view of the global environment as LCARC proposes the environmental loadings in the urban infra-structure of the
construction, operation, demolition and waste& recycle with this method.
